๐๏ธ Top 10 Dog-Friendly Spots Around Lake Tahoe
Share
Tahoe Dogs donโt need much โ a little water, a good stick, and an open trail will do โ but when youโre lucky enough to live (or visit) here, there are a few standout spots every pup should experience. Here are our top 10 dog-friendly places to swim, hike, and play around the lake. ๐พ
๐ 1. Kiva Beach (South Lake Tahoe)
A favorite among locals, Kiva Beach is one of the few official off-leash areas on the South Shore. Calm water, soft sand, and unbeatable mountain views โ just keep dogs under voice control and away from the bird-protected zone.
๐ 2. Page Meadows (West Shore)
Rolling meadows, wildflowers in spring, and golden aspens in fall โ Page Meadows is Tahoe perfection. A great off-leash hike for well-trained dogs and their humans looking for a mellow loop near Tahoe City.
๐ 3. Chambers Landing Beach & Pier (Homewood)
Tucked next to the iconic Chambers Landing Bar & Grill, this West Shore beach is great for mellow pups and post-adventure relaxation. Calm water, sandy entry, and plenty of space for a sunset swim. Stop by the pier for a photo โ or grab a drink on the deck while your dog dries off nearby.
๐ 4. Hurricane Bay (West Shore)
A local gem for morning swims and stick-chasing sessions. The shallow entry makes it ideal for dogs learning to swim. Youโll find parking pullouts along Highway 89 just south of Sunnyside.
๐ 5. Chimney Beach (East Shore)
One of Tahoeโs prettiest coves โ turquoise water, smooth granite, and plenty of space for adventurous dogs. Itโs a short but steep hike down, so pack water and a towel for the trek back up.
๐ฒ 6. Truckee River Trail (Tahoe City โ River Ranch Lodge)
Perfect for a long walk or bike ride beside the water. Dogs can dip in along calmer stretches, and there are a few shady picnic spots where humans can grab a snack.
๐ 7. Fallen Leaf Lake (South Shore)
A quieter alternative to busy beaches. The narrow lakeside trail offers peek-a-boo views and frequent swim spots โ just watch for cars on the access road. There's also a General Store where you can pick up a snack or a hot lunch.
๐ป 8. The Village at Palisades Tahoe (Olympic Valley)
Dog-friendly patios, mountain views, and year-round energy. Grab a beer at Le Chamois (of course...keep an eye out for "Otto"!), relax on the deck, and let your dog soak up the aprรจs-hike attention.
๐ผ 9. Hope Valley (Markleeville)
Open meadows, fall color, and plenty of space to roam. This oneโs a must for photographers and dogs who love exploring off the beaten path.
โ๏ธ 10. North Tahoe Regional Park (Tahoe Vista)
Trails, meadows, and even a snow-shoeing area in winter โ a perfect all-season playground. Thereโs a fenced dog park on-site too if your pup needs some off-leash zoomies.
