πŸ’› How Steven Taught Me to Live Like a Tahoe Dog

Tahoe Dog Co. didn’t start with a business plan, a logo, or a product idea.
It started with a dog named Steven.

When I first moved to Tahoe, life felt like a constant uphill climb. I was working hard, facing challenges at work, and trying to figure out what my next chapter looked like. Some days, I felt stuck. Other days, overwhelmed. But every single day, Steven made sure I got outside.

He didn’t care about deadlines, decisions, or stress.
He cared about trails, rivers, pinecones, and snow.

Steven had a way of pulling me away from my desk and into the trees. When I needed clarity, he took me hiking in Sugar Pine State Park. When I felt restless, he took me for a swim in Lake Tahoe. When life felt uncertain, he reminded me that sometimes the best thing you can do is try out a new trail β€” even if you don’t know exactly where it leads, or how much longer it'll be.

Steven taught me how to live like a Tahoe Dog.

Throw Yourself in the Lake

Steven believed in fully committing to the moment. If there was a body of water nearby, he was in it. No hesitation. No overthinking. Just joy, movement, and cold mountain water. He was notorious for jumping in the icy water at Paige Meadows, sigh...

He reminded me that sometimes you don’t need a perfect plan β€” you just need to jump in.

Find Adventure Everywhere

When we were deep in the woods, pinecones became tennis balls.
In the snow, snowballs worked just fine.
At the beach, smooth Tahoe rocks were his version of fetch.

Steven didn’t need fancy toys or structured activities. He found fun wherever we were. He taught me to see adventure in the simplest places β€” and to appreciate Tahoe for what it is: wild, beautiful, and full of possibility.

Rest When It’s Time

After a long hike or a cold swim, Steven knew how to rest.

On the pier.
In the car.
By the fire.
On the deck in the sun.

He showed me that slowing down is just as important as pushing forward. That balance matters. That rest isn’t weakness β€” it’s part of the rhythm of a good life.

My Constant Through Every Challenge

When work was hard, Steven was steady.
When decisions felt heavy, he stayed close.
When I didn’t know what to do next, he reminded me that sometimes the answer is just to show up again tomorrow, and eat the same breakfast you had yesterday:)

Steven simplified everything. He stood (or laid) by me. He helped me focus on what mattered.

And every morning, he woke up ready to do it all again.

The Spirit Behind Tahoe Dog Co.

Steven is the reason Tahoe Dog Co. exists.

His spirit lives on in how I live my life today β€” and in how I raise, train, and adventure with my current dogs and the foster pups that come through our home.

Because of Steven:

  • We embrace the outdoors daily
  • We welcome new dogs into our lives
  • We prioritize adventure, rest, and connection
  • We believe dogs make life better

Tahoe Dog Co. isn’t just about hats, stickers, or gear.
It’s about a way of living β€” one that Steven taught me.

A Tahoe Dog life is about:
🌲 Exploring new trails
πŸ’¦ Jumping into cold water
❄️ Playing in the snow
πŸ”₯ Resting by the fire
🐾 Showing up every day with joy

Steven showed me why the mountains of Lake Tahoe are the best place in the world.
And why dogs make it even better.

This company β€” this community β€” this lifestyle β€” started with him.

And for that, I’ll always be grateful.

Steven’s story is now part of Tahoe Dog Co.’s DNA β€” captured on our Steven patch sticker today, and soon on a hat as well.

In loving memory of Steven D., 2013-2024. Rest easy, good boy. May you catch all the pinecones your heart desires.Β
