How to Protect Your Dog’s Paws and Nose in Tahoe
Share
Life in Tahoe is hard on dog paws and noses in the best possible way.
Between snowy sidewalks, icy trails, granite hikes, lake days, dry mountain air, and year-round adventures, Tahoe dogs put their paws through a lot. A good paw and nose wax can help protect, soothe, and repair dry or cracked skin before and after outdoor time.
At Tahoe Dog Co., we designed our Adventure Paw Wax for dogs who spend their days hiking, swimming, running, exploring, and living outside with their people.
Winter Protection
Snow and winter conditions can be especially rough on paws and noses. Ice, packed snow, frozen ground, and road salt can dry out paw pads and lead to cracking or irritation.
Applying paw wax before a walk or adventure helps create a protective barrier against snow, ice, and salt. Afterward, it can help soothe and moisturize dry or damaged pads.
Winter is also a common time for dry, cracked noses due to cold air and indoor heating. A small amount of wax can help restore moisture and comfort.
Summer Protection
Tahoe summers are just as tough on paws.
Hot pavement, granite trails, rough terrain, sandy beaches, and long days in and out of the lake can all dry out or wear down paw pads. Dogs can also pick up small cuts or abrasions from rocks and trails during hikes and lake adventures.
Applying wax before outdoor activity can help condition and protect paws, while applying afterward can help repair dryness and irritation from a long day outside.
It’s also helpful for dry noses exposed to sun, wind, lake water, and mountain air.
Before and After Adventure
One of the best things about paw wax is that it works both preventatively and restoratively.
Before adventure:
- Helps protect against snow, salt, ice, hot pavement, rocks, and rough terrain
- Creates a moisture barrier for paws and noses
After adventure:
- Helps soothe and moisturize dry or cracked skin
- Supports recovery after hikes, lake days, snow play, or long trail runs
A little goes a long way. Simply massage a small amount into your dog’s paws or nose as needed.
Made in Partnership with Capay Valley Lavender
Tahoe Dog Co. Adventure Paw Wax is handcrafted in partnership with Capay Valley Lavender, my stepmom’s farm in Capay, California. She uses lavender and olive products from the farm to create each batch specifically for Tahoe Dog Co.
Her dog Capay definitely approves. She spends her days running around the farm and especially loves her daily walks through the olive grove. Her niece Riley and nephew Sampson are big fans too whenever they come to visit.
Tahoe Dog Tip
Because our paw wax is made with natural ingredients, avoid leaving it in hot temperatures or direct sunlight for extended periods, especially in cars during summer. The wax can soften or melt in high heat.
Tahoe dogs adventure year-round. Their paws should be ready for it.
