Sampson & Riley: Our Perfect Spring Day in Lake Tahoe (2026 version, since there's very little snow)

Hi there — it’s us, Sampson & Riley, your friendly neighborhood Tahoe Dog Co. Dogs!

Spring in Tahoe is a special kind of magic. The snow starts to melt (or is melted, as is the case in Spring 2026), the trails open up, the rivers get loud, and everything smells fresh again. If you’re wondering how to spend the perfect spring day with your pup in Tahoe, we’ve got you covered (muddy paws and all).

Morning: River Walk Along the Truckee

We like to start our spring days where the snowmelt flows — along the Truckee River.

One of our favorite spots is the stretch through Tahoe City on the Truckee River Bike Path. It’s flat, easy, and perfect for a relaxed morning walk while the air is still crisp. The river runs fast this time of year, and we love stopping along the edges to sniff, explore, and (if Mom lets us) sneak in a quick splash.

If you’re closer to Truckee, the Truckee River Legacy Trail is another go-to — wide paths, great views, and plenty of space for a proper spring strut.

Midday: Meadow Zoomies & Creek Crossings

By midday, we’re ready to stretch our legs a little more.

Page Meadows is one of our favorites this time of year. The snow is melting, the ground is soft, and little blooms start popping up everywhere. It’s the perfect place for zoomies, sniffing every new scent of the season, and, of course, getting just a little bit muddy.

Another great option is heading toward the meadows in Olympic Valley — open space, mountain views, and plenty of room to roam without going too high in elevation.

Afternoon: Beach Time (Yes, Already, at least this year)

Spring means beach season starts early for Tahoe Dogs.

On warmer days, we love heading down to Kiva Beach — one of the best dog-friendly beaches around. The water is cold (very cold), but that doesn’t stop us. A quick dip, a game of fetch, and rolling in the sand = perfect Tahoe afternoon.

If you’re staying closer to the East Shore, we recommend visiting Sand Harbor State Park (they allow dogs this time of year!) where we love to dip our paws into the gorgeous shoreline, complete with smooth boulders and turquoise waters in the background. Mom gets the best pics of us!

Happy Hour: Patio Season Begins

After all that exploring, it’s time for what humans call “a well-earned drink” and what we call “prime under-the-table snack positioning.”

We love dog-friendly patios like Truckee Brewing Company — plenty of outdoor space, good vibes, and lots of new friends to meet.

Another favorite is Alibi Ale Works - Truckee Public House, where we can hang out while Mom grabs a drink and we keep an eye out for dropped pretzels (it happens more than you’d think).

Evening: Golden Hour & Drying Off

By the time the sun dips low, we’re sandy, a little damp, and completely happy.

Spring sunsets hit differently — longer days, golden light, and that feeling that summer is just around the corner. We head home, dry off, and settle in — usually still wearing our Tahoe Dog Co. gear, because once you’re part of the pack, you kind of never take it off.

Spring days in Tahoe are all about the in-between: a little snow, a little sun, a little mud, a little water — and a lot of freedom.

From river trails to sandy paws, every Tahoe Dog knows — this is when the adventures really start.
